APPLE Snacks that will make your day AMAZING

Four Apple Snacks

THAT’LL JAZZ UP YOUR DAY

Apple Cinnamon Almond Butter Smoothie

(with a secret kick):

Almond is the new peanut: it’s full of omega 3s (which make you smarter!) and has way healthier fatty acids. Grab a banana, a couple cubes of ice, two scoops of creamy almond butter (or peanut butter, if you prefer), add a splash of milk (or almond milk!), half a sliced apple, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and a dash (and we do only mean dash) of chili powder. Blend together for a smoothie that’ll give your day some extra pizzazz (we’ve even heard that spices can help get your metabolism moving faster).

Turkey Apple Protein Rolls

Sliced turkey from the deli is naturally low in fat. Avoid carbs by using your turkey in place of where a bread would usually be. Wrap up slices of apple, avocado or whatever else you want (a little low fat mayo?) inside your turkey and enjoy.

Green Apple and Mozzarella Quesadillas

So you’ve probably had a grilled cheese with sliced apple on it (or if you haven’t—try this recipe, too!), but this is a Mexican twist on that old recipe. Make your quesadillas how you normally would (grilled, or if you’re a busy college student like many of us, heat up the tortilla and cheese in the microwave). Once it’s out, add thin slices of green apple on top or inside and enjoy the sweet, salty, hot and cold treat.

Cool Whip & Cottage Cheese Surprise

We know what you’re thinking—huh? But trust us and add some cool-whip to your cottage cheese— probably a cup of each (clearly this is a dessert). Then, drop some blueberries, peaches slices, apple or whatever other fruit you have on top. Enjoy the fluffy, tart snack as a dessert after dinner.

P.S.: If these snacks don’t make you want to go grab a bag of apples just because of how delicious these sound, check out the health benefits as well ( facts via healthdiaries.com):

Weight Loss
A Brazilian study found that women who ate three apples or pears per day lost more weight while dieting than women who did not eat fruit while dieting.

Breast Cancer Prevention
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Diabetes Management
The pectin in apples supplies galacturonic acid to the body which lowers the body’s need for insulin and may help in the management of diabetes.

You know what they say! An apple a day keeps the doctor away.

Beauty Review: Physician’s Formula Organic wear™ 100% Natural Origin Pressed Powder

I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions. On top of my resilance for making them, I also know the statistics that back my distaste for them saying that those that make them very sooner after break them. So, instead, I set monthly goals for 2013. One of them was to take away one beauty product that’s a daily part of my skin and beauty regimen and replace it with something natural or organic. I already have my lotion needs taken care of with Scented’s line of skin products  (Lime Verbana is TO DIE FOR), but as far as my foundation goes, I’ve decided to trade in my usual foundation for something a bit healthier for my skin.

I purchased Physician’s Formula Organic wear™ 100% Natural Origin Pressed Powder. I’m a sucker for reviews and Amazon.com had fab reviews on it so I decided to bite the bullet and try it. Week three, I love it. I’m not breaking out at all ( any acne I had before is entirely gone) and my skin feels lighter. You know that feeling you have when you take off your foundation at the end of the day? Free and without a mask? I don’t have that weighed down feeling at all with this product throughout the day.

Image

The best part? All organic. There’s three tones to this makeup palette so I’m able to blend to create my color and then I use the bronze shade for some highlighting on my face when I finish. Up next? The search for an all natural or organic mascara. Ideas?

All Natural Products from Scented – Better Skincare for Overall Health!

Image

You’ve probably noticed by now that “all natural” products are taking the beauty industry by storm. But what exactly does “all natural” mean? And, more importantly, why should you choose these products?

Well, the truth is that there isn’t a solid meaning for the term “natural” as it’s used on beauty products. That’s why we want you to know that we always strive for the highest standard of natural products by avoiding any toxic or harmful ingredients.

Avoiding Parabens and Other Toxic Chemicals

According to Bloomberg.com, “The average American woman uses 12 health and beauty products every morning before leaving the house. But the brands women rely on to look their best may be hiding harsh chemicals that have been linked to cancer, organ failure and birth defects.”

What’s really scary is that “Cosmetics aren’t subject to the same oversight as food and pharmaceuticals, according to the Food & Drug Administration. The FDA doesn’t have the responsibility to approve new ingredients or issue safety recalls. It’s up to the manufacturer to decide whether a product is safe.”

Considering that the products you use on your skin can and do enter your bloodstream through absorption, it’s so important to consider the chemicals that are in our skin care products. After all, the skin is our largest organ – don’t be fooled into thinking what is applied on the outside doesn’t affect our health from the inside! Nothing could be further from the truth.

One particularly unfriendly group of toxins are those known as parabens. You’ll see these listed on all kinds of products, such as body lotion, hair care, makeup, and more. So, what’s the big deal? Unfortunately, numerous studies have linked parabens to breast cancer and hormone issues. Some parabens even show the ability to mimic estrogen.

Chances are very high that unless you’ve already made the switch to truly natural products with concentrated effort, you’ll find all sorts of products in your bathroom with parabens. When you choose our products, you can rest assured that we never have and never will use parabens.

Other nasty ingredients to be on the lookout for in your beauty products include:

  • Formeldahyde
  • Phthalates
  • Lead
  • Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate
  • Petrolatum

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) offers a handy resource called the Skin Deep Cosmetics Database that allows you to look up any ingredient you might be unsure about in your beauty products.

We want to offer products that are beautiful and good for you on both the inside and outside. That’s why we want you to know that when you choose Scented products, they will only contain the most natural and non-toxic ingredients available.

Cyber Monday: Are you prepared?

Thanksgiving has come and gone; hopefully with a stress free day and plenty of memories made. Black Friday made it’s rounds and the weekend has quickly passed through. It’s Monday, and not just any Monday. The Monday after Thanksgiving has been deemed ” Cyber Monday” since the peak of the millenium, and the excitement of it continues to grow year after year.

Here are some tips to stay on your Cyber Monday A-Game and score some fantastic deals! Happy Shopping!

#1. Search for coupon codes. The site you’re shopping on will most likely offer a discount or sale posting when you enter their site, but what about saving some extra dollars? Do a google search for coupon codes for whichever site you’re shopping on. Check out sites like RetailMeNot, www.promocodes2012.com, and Coupon Cabin.

#2. Play hard to get. Put whichever items you’re looking to purchase in your ” cart” and wait a couple hours. Many big name stores keep track of which site visitors shop but don’t ” check out”. This may score you a ” Hey, Come back and save” email with a 5-10% discount.

#3. .EDU= Your Goods get to your Faster. Amazon.com offers a free and/or discounted Amazon Prime account when you register using your .edu account (jsmith@scenteduniversity.edu). Terms and Conditions do apply, but this is a fantastic way to save money, get FREE shipping and get your online purchase to your door faster.

#4 Connect with Social Media. Be sure to LIKE the business or website’s Facebook page and follow on Twitter before you make any online purchases. Many stores and boutiques post coupon codes, special offers, and gift ideas on their social media channels. You could be missing an extra savings, so connect via social media BEFORE you checkout, especially for Cyber Monday.
